The Basics of Motor Assembly
Gearboxes are some of the most important parts of any motor. They are made to extend the life of the motor running as running a motor at high speeds in a low gear can make it overheat, therefore making it unusable.
Gearboxes can either be automatic or manual (manual is the one mostly found in cars). However the principle is the same. When something reaches a certain speed, there is a change in the cogs used to turn the engine. The cog connected to the gearstick (even in an automatic gearbox) changes from being hooked on one cog along the differential to being yeast infectionhooked onto another cog on the differential. These cogs help drive the drive shaft which is connected to the engine or motor, making whatever you want to work, work.
You will need the flywheel and clutch from your gas vehicle, so just be sure to get it off the engine once it is out of the car. Just note that for an electric vehicle conversion you cannot use an automatic transmission as it will draw too many amps and probably change at the wrong time, drastically reducing your speed and range. But do not worry if you are used to driving an automatic transmission vehicle, the electric vehicle will drive just like an automatic, simply put it in gear and drive, the motor will not idle when you stop so it is not necessary to hold the clutch in when stopped. The gearbox must remain in the vehicle as you will connect the soap dispenserDC motor to it by means of an adapter plate connecting the clutch and flywheel as well. You will attach the flywheel and clutch to the electric motor by means of a hub, which you will need to have made at an engineering workshop, unless you DC MOTORpurchase an adaption tower cranekit.
Once you have removed the engine and other unnecessary parts from your donor vehicle, such as the radiator and the air conditioning unit. And when you have connected the motor to the adaptor plate, it is time to bolt the motor with the adaptor plate to the gearbox. Remember at this stage to be especially careful to keep the motor niche productsand gearbox lined up precisely, otherwise you could cause damage to the shaft coming out of the gearbox. Once the electric motor is connected to the gearbox you will need to hold it in position with the hoist and then make sure that it is securely fixed to the vehicle chassis. You may at this point need to make some support brackets which will need to be formed and welded, always be sure that you are conscious of all safety requirements when performing these operations.
Placing the motor into the vehicle and connecting it to the gearbox is one of the most intricate parts of the whole conversion process. Once this has been completed you have progressed a long way towards completing you electric vehicle conversion.
