This unit is the unit my son is in over there.  Please pray for them.  He was one of the injured but not seriously injured.  Pray for God to restore them, lift them up and strengthen them in this hour of loss.  Also pray for the family of the injured and the one that was lost.  Thank you for your prayers

Dear Families and Friends –

Unfortunately today, the 634th family has suffered its first casualties in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the injured. You are all part of our military family and I know that the families back home have been and will continue to be behind us as we deal with this attack and move forward. We will get through this together and complete our mission here.

Today, 17 January 2009, at about 9:45 a.m. (11:15 p.m. Central Standard Time on 16 January 09), a "Vehicle Born Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED)" detonated in the vicinity of the entrance to the US compound of Camp Eggers, in the City of Kabul. The detonation injured several Local Nationals and seven US Soldiers.

Five of the seven Soldiers injured are assigned to 634th SECFOR Company (otherwise known as Echo Company) at Camp Eggers. They were conducting security operation duties when the device detonated. One of the Active Duty Soldiers died from injuries sustained in the incident.

Of the injured 634th Soldiers, four of them were evacuated to Craig Hospital at Bagram Airfield for further treatment. One of those will be further evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany for follow-on treatment. The fifth injured Soldier is currently being treated locally. I can not speculate about the extent of the injuries of Our Soldiers. I will, however, provide further information as the medial professionals release the information to me. Official notifications are being made or may have already been made to family and/or significant others of the injured Soldiers as you hear this message. Know this – we have the best medical support available for these Soldiers.

Again, I will keep everyone informed as more information becomes available. Thank you for your continued support during our deployment.

Sincerely,

Eric Little

LTC

Battalion Commander
